Grande Prairie Airport Air Terminal

About This Project

Grande Prairie Airport Air Terminal

In the spring of 2007 WestJet Airlines developed a business plan to introduce a flow through departures passenger ticketing and baggage check system at the Edmonton International Airport. The plan required the temporary relocation of the WestJet ticket counters to the existing Air Terminal Building common use counter area in order to complete demolition and construction of the new airline ticket area.

The existing ticket counters and baggage handling system was removed in advance of a new flow through counter layout. An airline counter common to the needs of WestJet and common use carriers was developed and placed to maximize passenger flow in the existing North Terminal Building. A new baggage handling conveyor has been located on the departures level with a self serve drop area for departing passengers. Renovations to the existing arrivals level to facilitate the new baggage system is included in this project.

In addition to the 15 new air line ticket counters and the baggage system a modernization of the existing departures floor spaces, walls and ceiling has been undertaken.

The project design and tender process was fast tracked in order to meet the Construction Managers aggressive schedule to complete demolition and new construction within a four month time frame. The project is scheduled to be complete for November 01 2007.
